Morocco - Essaouira

ESSAOUIRA – GREAT CONIDITIONS, HUGE BAY WITH PLENTY OF SPACE, WAVES TO THE LEFT OF THE SPOT FOR THOSE WISHING TO PROGRESS

The Planet Allsports Essaouira is a great destination if you don’t mind sharing the beach with the odd camel or two, then Essaouira is a great place to be, the huge expanse of beach offers you space and freedom (if there are 20 kites and windsurfers on the water it’s a busy day) whilst the old medina and harbour give Essaouira its soul offering you a great mix of culture, food and insight into a charming way of life.

You can fly directly to Marrakech or Agadir with most major airlines, the transfer time is 2 to 2 ½ hours (from Paris you can fly to Essaouira)

Essaouira is a beautiful old town that has retained its charm, culture and relaxed atmosphere, but due to the huge expanse of beach and constant wind (with waves in the winter) it has also made a name for itself as a top watersports destination.

Essaouira is known as Africa’s windy city, the wind is the most consistent from April through to end September, the wind is still OK from October to December with wind 60-70% of the time, it then drops from January to end February and picks up again in March.

The spot is a large sandy bay circa 5km long directly in front of the town, the best kiting and windsurfing is towards the left side of the bay, away from the city, where the beach is less crowded and the wind is much more constant.

The curved shape of the bay and cross on wind make it a really safe spot for learning and progressing.

Planet All Sports is one of the only schools that offer safety boat.

Protected by the Mogador Islands and harbour, cross shore winds from the right offer ideal practising conditions for beginner to expert.

Flat water can be found to the right of the spot, waves can be found to the left of the spot.

If you want really big waves then head to Moulay or Sidi Kaouki.

If there are non windy days then do not despair, you can always try surfing or you can give stand up paddle a go.

The Planet Allsports centre is located at the perfect spot the other side of the bay from the town (15-20 minutes walk from the town) if you leave the town and follow the beach until you get to a row of buildings, we are the third building along, past Beach & Friends Café, (sun loungers, drinks and food available) then Panoramic Café (Tea, Coffee and Snacks available) we are next door to here. Dependent on the conditions most lesson are right in front of the centre, as this is the prime spot for kiting and windsurfing, surf lessons are to the left or right dependent on the waves.
Showers and changing facilities are on-site
Other activities; quad biking, mountain biking, horse riding pick up point is also at our centre.

In the summer months, the termals created by the huge difference in land and sea temperatures accelerates the northeasterly trade wind in the afternoon. The wind generally blwos from the north / north east, averaging between 15-25 knots. During the winter the wind shifts to the southerly
